About Unicef

According to UNICEF.org UNICEF- United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund was created in 1946 to help children in war torn countries all over the world. The main purpose was too protect children’s rights and make sure they have their basic needs. (“UNICEF’s Role”)UNICEF also wants to make sure they reach their full potential by expanding the opportunities of the children. Recently an earthquake and tsunami hit Indonesia. This was detrimental to its people and the land of Indonesia, it separated and killed several families leaving many children without homes or anyone to look after them. UNICEF is working to reunite the children with their families if possible and help Indonesia recover from this ghastly natural disaster. This is just one of the one-hundred-ninety countries UNICEF works in to help reunite families and save children and young people from potentially life threatening disasters. UNICEF also helps by bringing much needed supplies  necessary for survival in these countries. As an organization they have brought water to nearly two billion people. One of the ways they achieved this was by placing wells in Nigeria which played a major role in providing clean drinking water to many families. They also provide much needed food to many families in poverty stricken areas around the world. The food they provided was rich in protein and energy and was helpful in reducing the sickness of children who don’t get the proper foods and vitamins necessary for survival. This food helped to rehabilitate children who were very sick and lacked everyday nutrients that you and I might get. Children were also suffering from polio and many of them were being killed without access to a vaccine to help them. UNICEF was able to immunize and help save nearly 3 million children. They continue to do this every year because they are the worlds largest buyer of children’s vaccines. Children all over the world face unimaginable circumstances that they should not have endure. These children don’t just give up though, they are very strong and continue to fight against this adversity. With the help of UNICEF children’s deaths all over the world have been reduced by nearly fifty percent which was done in two decades. Thanks to the innovation of UNICEF the world has been made a much better place for children. This is something that has been achieved through hard work and the even harder working people volunteering for UNICEF. UNICEF has made a huge impact on the world for children, and they will continue to do so.
